Jim Harbaugh Kiyoshi Mio-USA TODAY Sports

After leading the Michigan Wolverines to a national championship on Monday night, Jim Harbaugh is set to be one of the top candidates for several job vacancies in the NFL. But it sounds like Michigan is going to do everything it can to keep him in Ann Arbor.

Following the national title game on Monday, Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel acknowledged that NFL teams will be interested in hiring Harbaugh, and he understood why.

“I understand why people in the pros would want to hire Jim Harbaugh and talk to him about being the coach,” Manuel said according to On3. “The man went to a Super Bowl. He won a conference championship. He went back to a conference championship. In that league.”

Manuel said that he’s going to do what he can to keep Harbaugh at Michigan, but if Harbaugh wants to give the NFL a try, he understands that.

“If I was in the pros, I would want to talk to him because of what he accomplished,” Manuel said. “However, I’m not in the pros, and I want to keep him as our coach. That’s my cross to bear.”

But Manuel made it very clear what he wants.

“But I want him to stay at Michigan. I’ve said. I believe it. Three or four years ago when people wanted me to get rid of him, I didn’t. Because I believed then, and I believe now,”

We’ll certainly have to see what happens.
