As Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss Rebels look to put together another strong season in 2024, they’ll get some assistance from a longtime former NFL coach.

Earlier this week, Ole Miss Spirit, the school’s On3 site reported that former New York Giants head coach Joe Judge would be joining Kiffin’s staff as a “senior analyst.”

Judge played college football at rival Mississippi State from 2000-04 and was a graduate assistant with the program from 2005-07, so he’ll be on the other side of the famed Egg Bowl rivalry for the first time in his coaching career.

Judge also spent time with the Alabama Crimson Tide before being hired as a special teams assistant with the New England Patriots in 2012. He remained with the Patriots through the 2019 season, eventually being named special teams coordinator and winning three Super Bowls with the team before being tabbed to coach the New York Giants in 2020. Judge’s head coaching career didn’t go great, as he lasted just two seasons with the Giants and went a combined 10-23, including a 4-13 last-place finish in the 2021 season.

After his brief run with the Giants, Judge returned to the Patriots, as most Bill Belichick assistants would go on to do after their head coaching opportunities dried up. He was New England’s quarterbacks coach in 2022 and was promoted to assistant head coach for the 2023 season, which saw the Patriots go 4-13, their worst finish since a 2-14 1992 season.
