Bill Self Kansas coach Bill Self signs several basketballs fresh off winning his second NCAA men’s basketball championship with the Jayhawks in the terminal at Topeka Regional Airport at Forbes Field on Tuesday, April 2, 2022. Kansas Jayhawks Return Home Champions 12

For the first time in 13 years, the Kansas Jayhawks are ranked in the top 25. However, we’re not talking about basketball, we’re talking about football.

The Jayhawks came into Saturday’s game against TCU undefeated and leading the Big 12 conference along with the Horned Frogs. Although the Jayhawks lost a close one, 38-31, they seem to be for real. Kansas head basketball coach Bill Self took a little pride in throwing some shade at the Kentucky Wildcats and head coach John Calipari.

Calipari said a few months ago that Kentucky is a basketball school despite the fact that the Wildcats football team finished second in the SEC East last year. Self wanted the nation to know that Kansas is a basketball AND a football school.

“You know we are a basketball school… AND we’ll be a football school,” said Self. “This is good for basketball.”

Not many schools can claim to be good in both sports but Kentucky, and now Kansas can do it. And as Self said, this is good for his program as well.

As you could tell by the cheers of Jayhawk fans on ESPN’s College GameDay, the excitement around the Jayhawks football team looks like it’s not going anywhere.
