Kansas Jayhawks offensive lineman Joe Krause faces a felony charge after allegedly making a bomb threat against the team’s facility on Monday.

According to multiple reports, the Kansas football facilities were evacuated after a bomb threat. An all-clear was issued that night.

The Kansas City Star reported that campus police reported a “subject was identified and arrested for making the threats” on Monday.

Krause appeared in Douglas County Court Tuesday. According to the Star, Krause faces a severity level 5 person felony, for “unlawfully, feloniously, and with the intent to place another in fear, or to cause the evacuation, lock down or disruption in regular, ongoing activities of any building, communicate a threat to commit violence.”

Krause was released after posting $10,000 bail. If found guilty on that felony charge, he faces a prison sentence ranging from 31 months to 136 months and a fine of up to $300,000.

A walk-on for three seasons with the Jayhawks, Krause appeared in two games in 2020, redshirted in 2021 and did not play in a game last season.

A University of Kansas spokesperson told the Star in a statement that the university is “aware of a situation involving one of our student athletes,” and “We take the safety of our staff, student-athletes and coaches very seriously. We are gathering more information and will have no further comment at this time.”
