Ridiculous Flop

The Kentucky Wildcats notched an impressive top-25 victory on Saturday evening, beating the No. 16 Mississippi State Bulldogs by a score of 27-17. But it wasn’t their play on the field that drew most of the attention from the college football world on Saturday night. Instead, it was their antics after the play.

During Saturday afternoon’s win over the Bulldogs, Kentucky players could be seen falling down far too easily and obnoxiously at the slightest touch in an attempt to draw an unnecessary roughness call after the play.

College football writer Spencer Hall initially pointed out the strange antics during Saturday evening’s game after he noticed Kentucky offensive tackle Tashawn Manning dramatically throwing his arms in the air and flopping to the ground after a shoving match with Mississippi State safety Collin Duncan.

But that wasn’t the only time Kentucky was caught flopping during a game this season.

As Jim Weber points out, during an earlier game this season, Kentucky defensive back Chamarion Bush dramatically flopped to the ground and went limp after he was shoved by an NC State wide receiver. A few other Wildcats players noticed what he was doing, and even joined in, pretending to resuscitate him with fake chest compressions.

The egregious flops went viral on Saturday night, with the college football world reacting to the Kentucky players’ theatrics on Twitter.

It’s worth noting that despite their best efforts, neither player successfully drew a flag. But at least they had some fun while trying.
