Ohio State head coach Ryan Day Ohio State coach Ryan Day leads his team in warmups prior to their game against Michigan at Michigan Stadium.

After Saturday’s loss, Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day has now lost three consecutive games to the Michigan Wolverines – an unacceptable streak for Ohio State fans as that rivalry showdown is the most important game on the schedule for the Buckeyes every single season. As college football analyst and former Ohio State quarterback Kirk Herbstreit points out, that’s not a good look for Day.

While Kirk Herbstreit doesn’t even think Ohio State should think about firing Ryan Day after three straight losses to Michigan, he does concede that Day has “a Michigan problem” that he needs to overcome.

“I think there’s two things that can be true here,” Herbstreit said during an appearance on Pardon My Take. “Number one … I wouldn’t even consider even talking about firing Ryan Day, like I wouldn’t. Number two, he definitely has a Michigan problem.

“So I think both of those things can be true. This game is cyclical, the pressure that the way teams get in the other team’s head. Ohio State lived in Michigan’s head for a number of years with Tressel and Urban Meyer and Jim Harbaugh to his credit at one point, they’re ready to fire him, and now that he’s completely turned this thing around.”

Day has set clear goals for the program every season – beat Michigan, win a Big Ten championship, and win a national championship. Day and Ohio State is now 0-9 on all of those goals the past three seasons.
