The LSU Tigers landed a potentially key transfer through the portal on Tuesday.

LSU reeled in offensive lineman Mason Lunsford from the Maryland Terrapins. The former three-star lineman’s move to Baton Rouge was reported on Tuesday afternoon.

Shea Dixon of On3Sports tweeted, “Mason Lunsford heads to #LSU with 23 college starts under his belt. The Tigers return five offensive linemen who started games in 2022. Now, more competition is on the way.”

Lunsford starred at Maryland the past two seasons and was a consistent piece. He made 13 starts at left guard during the 2022 season. He’s shown versatility on the line, which could help his case tremendously at LSU. He can play both left and right guard, which could boost is playing time in Baton Rouge.

Competition is likely to be the name of the game on the offensive line this spring. The Tigers do return left tackle Will Campbell, who produced extremely well as a true freshman. They are somewhat thin on depth otherwise, as several linemen transferred this past off-season.

With that being said, LSU will be an intriguing team in 2023, and we’ll see if Lundsford can make any impact on the line. The Tigers will return Jayden Daniels, Malik Nabers, and a host of other talented players on offense. Defensively, the team looks fierce with Harold Perkins entering his sophomore season after a dominant freshman campaign.
