Ryan Day Syndication: The Columbus Dispatch

Back in 2002, running back Maurice Clarett cemented himself as an Ohio State legend when he helped lead the Buckeyes to a national championship and a win over rival Michigan as a true freshman. And after watching Ohio State lose to Michigan on Saturday afternoon, he seems to have run out of patience with head coach Ryan Day.

Following the game, Maurice Clarett took to social media to call for Ryan Day to be fired as Ohio State’s head coach after suffering a third-straight loss to Michigan.

“Ryan Day…. Love you bro but gotta go. This is why you’re paid millions. Cant get paid 9’ms and lose 3 straight,” Clarett said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

Clarett explained his stance a little further in a follow-up post where he made it clear that he thinks it’s fair to expect more from a coach that’s paid $9 million a year.

“When you pay someone 9 million you can have high expectations….. your grade school teacher makes 50k and yall make more demands from her/him. This dude is a state employee. He made more than the governor. Deal with the pressure or get out the seat,” Clarett said.

Beating Michigan is vitally important for any coach at Ohio State, and Day hasn’t been able to do it since 2019.
