Miami Hurricanes quarterback Emory Williams left Saturday’s 27-20 loss to the Florida State Seminoles late in the fourth quarter with an arm injury.
Williams, a freshman, was making just his second career start following his debut as a starter in last week’s 28-20 double-overtime win over the Clemson Tigers, where he went 24-for-33 for 151 yards to go along with a touchdown and an interception.
Before leaving with the injury on Saturday, Williams went 8-for-24 with 175 yards and two touchdowns.
The injury came as Williams was trying to make an extra effort to get a first down on 4th and 2. He was successful and the drive extended.
Williams was “crying in pain” after the hit, according to ESPN sideline reporter Molly McGrath. He was carted off the field with an air cast on his left (non-throwing) arm.

Tyler Van Dyke came in in Williams’ place and subsequently threw an interception that allowed the Seminoles to kneel out the clock.
Miami replaced the struggling Van Dyke with Williams prior to last week’s game against Clemson and it now looks like the now 6-4 Hurricanes will have to turn back to Van Dyke as they look to finish off their season with a pair of wins against the Louisville Cardinals and Boston College Eagles.
Florida State improved to 10-0 on the season and will finish its season against North Alabama and Florida.
