The battle of Miami took place on Friday night, as the Miami Hurricanes took on the Miami (Ohio) RedHawks. And some animosity before the game was settled decisively by the “real Miami.”

Miami of Ohio quarterback had an extremely bold message to the Miami Hurricanes ahead of the game, claiming that the RedHawks were the “real Miami” before the game and that they would show the Hurricanes that in this matchup.

“The real Miami is in Oxford, Ohio,” Gabbert recently claimed when asked who the “real Miami” was. “I just think we’ll show them September 1st.”

It’s great to be confident in yourself and your team ahead of a big game, but if you are going to talk trash about an opponent, you have to back it up when it comes time to take the field.

That didn’t happen, as the Miami Hurricanes would go on to defeat Miami of Ohio 38-3…

Perhaps even worse is that Gabbert individually did not have all that great of a performance. He was largely shut down all night, putting up on 127 passing yards on the night.

There was clearly no debate as to who the “real Miami” was. But if there was any question, it was certainly answered. Fans came back to this take from Gabbert and blasted him on social media after the game.

Gabbert will almost certainly think twice before providing another opponent this season with bulletin board material before a game.
