The Michigan Wolverines have made a decision on co-offensive coordinator Matt Weiss after some shocking details emerged on Tuesday of an investigation that he’s involved in.
According to ESPN college football insiders Pete Thamel and Dan Murphy, Michigan has decided to place Weiss on leave due to an investigation by the school’s police department into an incident that occurred in December.
Details of the investigation are very vague at this point, but it’s reportedly due to a “report of computer access crimes” that was sent to Michigan University’s police department on an incident at Schembechler Hall, which is a training center on Michigan’s campus.
No further details have been revealed of the incident due to the investigation being ongoing, but Weiss offered a statement on the situation after being put on leave on Tuesday.
“I am aware of the ongoing investigation by the University of Michigan Police Department and fully cooperating with investigators,” said Weiss via ESPN. “I look forward to the matter being resolved. Out of respect for the integrity of the investigation, I will not have any further comment.”
University of Michigan deputy chief of police Crystal James also released a statement on the matter, detailing that further information will be held due to the ongoing nature of the investigation.
“Since this is an ongoing investigation there is no additional information to share.”
This is the latest of a troubling trend surrounding Michigan’s football program, which is currently under NCAA investigation along with head coach Jim Harbaugh for numerous potential rules violations.
Weiss has been with Michigan for two seasons and has played a big part in their offense being inside the top 25 in college football in total offensive yards in back-to-back years.
