Michigan running backs coach Mike Hart Michigan running backs coach Mike Hart speaks during Media Day at George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2024.

The Michigan Wolverines program is set to undergo some significant change next season with new head coach Sherrone Moore taking over for Jim Harbaugh. But unfortunately for Moore, a big part of the culture of Michigan will also not be returning under him next year.

A huge part of Michigan’s success over the years has been thanks to their dominant running game, which was overseen by running backs coach Mike Hart for the past three seasons.

Hart has not only overseen the on-field action for the running back on the team but also helped recruit the likes of Donvan Edwards and Blake Corum to the program.

According to The Detroit News, Hart will not be returning to the program this coming season. He even reportedly cleaned out his locker at Schembechler Hall recently.

It will certainly be interesting to see who Michigan ultimately decides to replace Hart with, and how this loss will ultimately impact the program as a whole.

Michigan fans are certainly going to be sad to see Hart go. He of course starred on the field for the team from 2004-2007 as a four-year starter at running back. He still holds the program record for the most rushing yards and most rushing attempts in a career.

Given the success Hart had as a running backs coach at Michigan, it will be interesting to see where he potentially goes next. The Los Angeles Chargers notably hired a running backs coach back in February for Jim Harbaugh’s new coaching staff. So wherever Hart goes, it seems like he will fully be leaving Michigan behind.
