Tennessee Volunteers five-star freshman quarterback Nico Iamaleava did not play all that much this season as he sat behind starter Joe Milton, but he’ll be taking over as the team’s starting quarterback next season, and it sounds like he’s ready for the role.

During a recent press conference, Iamaleava made it clear just how excited he is to be able to step into the team’s starting quarterback role this season.

“I’m really excited, man,” Nico Iamaleava said according to On3. “We built a great team around us, a great coaching staff, and I really think the sky’s the limit for this team. It’s on us to go out there and get it done.”

Iamaleava had the chance to make his first start against the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Citrus Bowl after Milton opted out to prepare for the NFL Draft, and he was happy to have the opportunity.

“It felt great, man,” Iamaleava said. “Finally to play a whole game. I haven’t done that in a while, so it felt good to get back out there and get my feet wet.”

Iamaleava led the team to a dominant 35-0 win over Iowa, which the team will undoubtedly hope is a preview of what he’ll be able to do next year.
