James Franklin Oct 21, 2023; Columbus, Ohio, USA; Penn State Nittany Lions head coach James Franklin yells after a call against his defense during the second quarter of their game at Ohio Stadium.

The Penn State Nittany Lions fell to the Michigan Wolverines on Saturday afternoon, and college football expert Paul Finebaum didn’t waste any time in criticizing Penn State head coach James Franklin as a result.

With the loss to Michigan on Saturday, Penn State now falls to 4-16 all-time against Ohio State and Michigan under James Franklin, leading Paul Finebaum to absolutely blast Franklin for his performance in big games on SportsCenter.

“By the way, it doesn’t look great but Michigan didn’t have to do anything for one reason,” Finebaum said on On3. “James Franklin is one of the most unimaginative big game coaches in the history of the game. I don’t know what he was trying to do but it didn’t look like he was trying to win the game, and that’s what you’re supposed to do. His record in these big games against Ohio State and Michigan is abysmal and I think that’s one reason why Michigan played it close to the vest and won fairly easily.”

Penn State has consistently been a strong team under Franklin, but he hasn’t been able to consistently compete against Michigan and Ohio State. We’ll have to see if that can ever change.
