College Football Playoff The Columbus Dispatch

This season’s College Football Playoff will feature semifinal matchups between the Michigan Wolverines and the Alabama Crimson Tide in the Rose Bowl as well as the Washington Huskies and the Texas Longhorns in the Sugar Bowl. But the latest odds suggest that the winner of one of those matchups will ultimately decide this season’s national champion.

According to odds from betonline.ag, either winner of the Rose Bowl matchup between Alabama and Michigan would be favored over either winner of the Sugar Bowl matchup between Washington and Texas.

If Alabama were to win, the Crimson Tide would be 2.5-point favorites over Texas – which is notable, considering Texas beat Alabama 34-24 earlier this year – and 6.5-point favorites over Washington. If Michigan were to win the game, however, they would be 3-point favorites over Texas and 7-point favorites over Washington.

So while both games will undoubtedly garner a lot of attention from fans, these odds suggest that the winner of the showdown between Texas and Washington may not matter all that much when determining the national title winner as the Vegas odds seem to indicate that this season’s champion will be the winner of the Rose Bowl showdown between Alabama and Michigan.

Currently, Michigan is a 1.5-point favorite over Alabama in the Rose Bowl.
