Notre Dame quarterback Sam Hartman has signed a NIL deal with Under Armour, the program announced in a video Friday.

Under Armour and Notre Dame signed a ten-year extension to their partnership in July, having been partners since 2014, when Notre Dame switched to Under Armour from Adidas.

Hartman, who transferred to Notre Dame from Wake Forest over the summer, was the first Fighting Irish athlete to ink a NIL deal since the extension was signed, and celebrated by gifting his teammates SlipSpeed training shoes, which was one of the caveats of signing the deal.

“I said, ‘I’m not doing something unless we do it with the boys.’ So we want to hook you guys up. Shout out to Under Armour for hooking you guys up, hooking us up every day.” Hartman said in the video to his group of ecstatic teammates, following one of Notre Dame’s final practices before they head to Dublin to open the season against Navy next Saturday.

Hartman, who lead the nation in both passing yards (4,228) and passing touchdowns (39) in the 2021 season is looking to bring an upgrade to the Notre Dame quarterback position, as Fighting Irish quarterbacks combined for 2,600 passing yards and 25 touchdowns last year, the first season under head coach Marcus Freeman.

The financial terms of Hartman’s NIL deal with Under Armour were not disclosed.
