The Texas Longhorns suffered just one loss all season to the Oklahoma Sooners in a game where Texas largely outplayed their rivals in the Red River Showdown despite the final score. There was a chance that Texas could have had the chance to avenge that loss in the Big 12 Championship game, however, Oklahoma didn’t make it, and the Longhorns will instead take on Oklahoma State. But Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian doesn’t sound worried about that.

During a press conference this week, Steve Sarkisian was asked whether or not his team was hoping to have a chance to play Oklahoma again in the title game to avenge the earlier loss, but he had a pretty blunt response.

“It didn’t matter. At this point, at this stage, we’ve been on this kick all year, we’ve been focused on what we need to do and being enamored with what we need to do,” Sarkisian said according to On3. “I think in a unique way it’s kind of fitting that we’re playing Oklahoma State in the Big 12 Championship Game knowing we didn’t get an opportunity to play each other in the regular season.”

To Sarkisian’s point, Oklahoma State was one of just four Big 12 teams that Texas did not face during the regular season, so it is a fitting championship game opponent anyway.
