The Maryland Terrapins had the Ohio State Buckeyes on the ropes in the first half Saturday, leading 10-0 before the Buckeyes made a run toward the end of the half to tie it at 10.

But the Terps had the opportunity to take the lead and the momentum going into halftime with a field goal, until their quarterback blew it.

With time running out, the Buckeyes got a huge roughing the passer call against them that allowed Maryland to move the ball into field goal range. But Terps QB Taulia Tagovailoa completed a pass across the middle when his team didn’t have any timeouts. Before Maryland could spike the ball, the clock expired.

A weird ending for a mostly good half by the Terps, who could have really stuck it to the Buckeyes by taking some momentum going into the second half.

The college football world had a lot to say about the mistake.

If Maryland does end up losing by three points or less to Ohio State on Saturday, everyone will point to this play as the reason why.
