The NCAA transfer portal claimed a former four-star prospect on Sunday afternoon.

Texas A&M Aggies wide receiver Raymond Cottrell announced that he will leave the program and head elsewhere. Cottrell announced his intentions shortly after the program announced the dismissal of head coach Jimbo Fisher. Aggie players like Cottrell can get a head start on entering the transfer portal in the next 30 days because of the coaching change.

Cottrell, a class of 2023 recruit, leaves the program after not even completing a full season in College Station.

The first-year receiver announced his move on Twitter/ X:

“In the realm of collegiate athletics, where opportunities for growth and success abound, I have made the decision to embark on a new chapter in my journey by hitting The Transfer Portal.

This choice is not one taken lightly, but God has a plan for me and I can’t wait to see what he has for me.

I wanna thank the staff and coach Jimbo for taking me in and giving me knowledge of the game. To my wide receiver coach, [Dameyune] Craig, I appreciate you for showing me that no matter what, believe in you and do what’s best for you.

Thanks to everyone who has been with me on this journey. Thank you Aggie Nation.”

The freshman wide receiver registered his first career touchdown with a 13-yard score in the team’s win over the University of University of Louisiana-Monroe (ULM). Having played in just three games, it looks as if the Aggies were trying to redshirt the 6-foot-3, 210-pound receiver out of Milton (Fla.).

Originally committed to the University of Florida, Cottrell flipped his commitment to the University of Georgia. After not signing with the Bulldogs during the early signing period, he later flipped his commitment to Fisher’s program. So while he’ll be looking at yet another program — now that he intends to enter the portal — there’s some familiarity with other SEC schools (Florida, Georgia), as well as Florida State and Miami.

Per the 247Sports composite rankings, Cottrell was the No. 30 wide receiver in the class of 2023 and the No. 40 overall recruit from the state of Florida.
