Texas Longhorns starting quarterback Quinn Ewers missed last week’s game against the BYU Cougars after suffering a shoulder injury. But it sounds like there’s a chance he could return to the team’s lineup this week before a Big 12 showdown with No. 25 Kansas State.

During his weekly press conference on Monday, Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian certainly did not rule out Quinn Ewers for Saturday’s game, listing the quarterback as “week-to-week” along with a few other injured Longhorn players.

“From an injury update, [Quinn] Ewers, [Ethan] Burke and [Jalen] Catalon are still all week-to-week,” Sarkisian said during his press conference according to Inside Texas of On3.

If Ewers is unable to play again this week, second-year quarterback Maalik Murphy would once again get the start. And it sounds like Sarkisian would have confidence in him, especially after the way he responded from a few early mistakes in his first college start.

“I thought he bounced great,” Sarkisian stated. “They were a little unorthodox. Both turnovers were, quite frankly, unfortunate for him. The first one, we had a bit of a miscommunication and we didn’t get a route from the receiver on the front side. So, now, he gets a little bit of pressure, and that’s some of the growing pains as a quarterback.

“Sometimes you’ve got to eat the ball, take the sack, and not just kind of try to throw it, especially when you’re getting hit.”

Still, the Longhorns would love to have Ewers back on the field. We’ll have to see whether or not it happens.
