The Miami Hurricanes proverbially snatched defeat from the jaws of victory this week when the team decided not to end the game with a quarterback kneel, instead calling a running play which ultimately led to a fumble and an eventual game-winning score from Georgia Tech. It was a pretty brutal loss for the Hurricanes, and quarterback Tyler Van Dyke spoke on it this week.

The decision from the coaching staff not to take a knee and seal the victory was one of the worst coaching blunders in recent memory, but Tyler Van Dyke made it clear that he still has “the utmost faith” in the Miami coaching staff to do the right thing and put them in a position to succeed going forward.

“And have the utmost faith in the coaching staff, really believe in every single one of the coaches we have. They put a great game plan every week for us, so not worried about that,” Van Dyke said. “They’re gonna do the best they can to help us succeed, so can’t wait for Saturday to get out there with them.”

Van Dyke himself has also taken some criticism for not having the awareness to take a knee himself even if the coaches didn’t call it, and he address those criticisms as well.

“I mean I’m trusting the coaches, so I’m just playing football. Going out there, doing what I have to do,” Van Dyke said. “That game’s in the past now, I don’t even want to talk about it. We got to move on to UNC, it’s a short week so just gotta get ready for this game coming up on Saturday.”

Miami will have a chance to bounce back this week with a game against North Carolina.
