Deion Sanders and Urban Meyer Credit: FS1

The Deion Sanders era is off to a very good start for the Colorado Buffaloes.

Two games in, the program has already doubled its win total from last season and has become the talk of the college football world.

While much of the praise has gone in the direction of quarterback Shedeur Sanders and cornerback Travis Hunter, former Ohio State and Florida head coach Urban Meyer thinks a large part of the credit should be going to the coaching staff.

“The best teams I’ve ever had, I had nine coaches that were monsters. All nine were on point, and then quite honestly, when I didn’t have my best teams, we didn’t have our best staffs,” Meyer said during a chat with Bob Stoops. “He [Sanders] hired a guy, Charles Kelly from Alabama. He actually coached my son-in-law, who actually knows him and loves him. I spent time with him and sat in his meetings. He’s running the defense. And then there’s a guy named Sean Lewis, who I’m really impressed with. He was the head coach at Kent State University who actually won.

“Shedeur Sanders is built for this RPO world. He gets the ball out fast, he’s effortless in the way he throws, he’s a very smart distributer of the ball. That fits exactly with what they’re running on offense. So, Prime has hired a really good coaching staff.”

Meyer and FS1’s Big Noon Kickoff will be in Boulder this weekend for the Colorado-Colorado State game.
