The Notre Dame Fighting Irish appear to have a legit quarterback on their hands following last week’s drubbing of Navy.
Sam Hartman threw for 251 yards and four touchdowns while completing 19 of 23 passes on the day, all while leading the Irish to a 42-3 win in Ireland.
While they didn’t recruit him Notre Dame lucked out when Hartman decided to transfer from Wake Forest this offseason.
Former Ohio State and Florida coach Urban Meyer shared some thoughts on the situation recently and seemed to throw some shade at Notre Dame for the fact that they have to get a great quarterback through the transfer portal instead of recruiting one.
“I still am amazed that Notre Dame’s gotta go to Wake Forest to get a transfer quarterback,” Meyer said on his Urban’s Take show. “That doesn’t equate to me. Now, he’s a great player. But Notre Dame’s gotta go recruit them a five-star and they should have one, two, and three excellent quarterbacks because it’s Notre Dame.
“You, Ohio State, and those top blue blood teams, you should be in the mix on every top quarterback in America to get ’em.”
Urban Meyer believes Notre Dame should be recruiting better at QB:

Perhaps it’s true that Notre Dame should be able to attract five-star quarterbacks, but in the modern world of college football, you get talent however you can. Old-school people like Meyer might think getting transfers isn’t as valuable as recruiting a player, but that kind of thinking might be why Meyer wouldn’t do as well coaching anymore.
