When you think of the 2023 Washington Huskies football team, you probably think of Heisman-hopeful quarterback Michael Penix, Jr.

ESPN College GameDay co-host Desmond Howard doesn’t want you to forget about the guys he’s throwing the ball to.

Last season, Rome Odunze and Jalen McMillan became the first Huskies receiving duo to both have over 1,000 receiving yards in the season. This year, the 5-0 UW squad boasts them as well as Ja’Lynn Polk, Germie Bernard, and tight end Jack Westover for what has to be considered one of the best receiver corps in the country.

According to Howard, it’s not even a question that they’re the best in the nation.

“I believe that Washington has the best trio of receivers in the country, hands down, not even close,” Howard told reporters on Friday. “I believe that those three are outstanding. They each bring something different and unique to the offense. That’s what makes it special.

“I talked to Michael Penix, Jr. And I just played like word association and I just threw out names. And it was just really interesting how he had different attributes to describe each of those three receivers. They’re a phenomenal group of receivers and obviously, that’s one of the key reasons why he’s been so successful.”

Heading into Saturday’s huge showdown with Oregon, Odunze leads the team with 32 receptions for 608 yards and four touchdowns. Meanwhile, Polk has 26 receptions for 468 yards and four scores, and McMillan has 20 catches for 311 yards and three touchdowns.
