Monday’s National Championship game against Michigan will be quarterback Michael Penix Jr.’s final game with the Huskies. The same is true for his backup.

Dylan Morris, who was Washington’s starting quarterback in 2021 and has backed up Penix for the last two seasons, is transferring to James Madison.

Brandon Huffman of 247 Sports reported the news, but clarified that “Morris will suit up for the Huskies in the national championship game on Monday night then arrive in Harrisonburg later next week.”

It was apparent that Morris was going to be the odd man out at Washington.

Mississippi State quarterback Will Rogers announced his decision to transfer to the Huskies in December. Following the 2024  season, Washington’s presumed starter will likely be Austin Mack, one of the star recruits from the Huskies’ Class of 2023.

James Madison is also a natural place for Morris to go. Jordan McCloud, who helped lead the Dukes to an 11-2 season, announced that he was entering the transfer portal in December.

In his time at Washington, Morris has completed 60.6% of his passes for 3,721 yards with 20 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. He’s also rushed for 56 yards with five touchdowns. He’s played sparingly as Penix’s backup in 2023. In that time, Morris was 9-for-14, passing for 224 yards with a touchdown and an interception.
