Less than a week after playing in the National Championship game, the University of Washington’s football program is dealing with another significant loss.
Will Rogers, a quarterback who announced that he was transferring from Mississippi State to Washington, will not even play a game for the Huskies. It was reported on Friday night that Rogers is re-entering the transfer portal.
Tom VanHaaren of ESPN reported the news.
Washington quarterback Will Rogers is in the transfer portal.
Rogers just transferred in from Mississippi State and is now transferring out.

This is most likely a result of Kalen DeBoer, Washington’s now-former coach, leaving the Huskies to become Alabama’s head coach.
The news of Rogers’ transfer caught the attention of the college football world on Friday night.

While he has only one year of college eligibility remaining, Rogers was tabbed as the likely replacement for Heisman Trophy finalist Michael Penix Jr. The transfer portal has made transferring much easier and therefore, common than it was in previous eras. Still, this is a definite deviation from even the new normal.
Expect the interest in Rogers to be strong. His 12,315 career passing yards at Mississippi State are the second most in SEC history. He also has 94 career touchdown passes against 28 interceptions.
During the 2023 season with the Bulldogs, Rogers passed for 1,626 yards with 12 touchdowns and four interceptions. If Rogers returns to the SEC, the conference’s all-time passing yardage record will almost certainly go down, as he’s presently only 851 yards behind former Georgia quarterback, Aaron Murray.
