During this week’s Western and Southern Open in Cincinnati, Ohio, legendary tennis player Novak Djokovic is playing his first matches in the United States since 2021 after he was unable to play in the country previously due to his refusal to get the COVID-19 vaccine. But even as a returns after missing so many tournaments, he does not regret that decision.
During a recent interview, Novak Djokovic made it clear that he has “zero regret” about his decision not to get the vaccine which resulted in him missing many matches on American soil.
“The reason why I was not here for two years, I have zero regret on that. I’m just glad to be back,” Djokovic said this week ahead of the tournament in Cincinnati according to Yahoo Sports.
“I’ve had plenty of success on American soil with Indian Wells, Miami, obviously Canada and here, [I’ve] won many times at these Masters 1,000 events, all of them. Of course, the US Open as well being the pinnacle of the hard-court season – I’m just excited.”
Djokovic is competing in Cincinnati and will then head to New York for the US Open next week, allowing American tennis fans a chance to watch a man who will go down as perhaps the greatest to ever play the sport.
