Following the Supreme Court ruling in May 2018, a full range of mobile gambling has become possible in the United States. That means people can now enjoy having a wager on their favorite sport, play a range of the best online casino games, and enjoy a game of poker, all on their mobile device.

However, the new legislation means it is up to the individual states to legalize and monitor mobile gambling. Some states have been quick to legalize mobile sports betting following the ruling in 2018, whereas others have yet to complete the formalities, and some states seem reluctant to introduce mobile sports betting at all. In terms of mobile casino gambling and playing online games that pay real money, the introduction of this in the United States can be traced back to 2010. Both New Jersey and Delaware introduced mobile casinos in 2013. Both states have been extremely active when it comes to introducing mobile gambling and for those people residing in New Jersey and Delaware, you have a full selection of mobile gambling applications including sport, casino games, and poker.

Betting on the most popular American sports has long been a dream for people in the United States. In New Jersey and Delaware, betting on baseball, basketball, ice hockey and American football is legal. The same can be said for Pennsylvania, Nevada, West Virginia, Indiana, New Hampshire, Oregon, and Colorado. In fact, these are just some of the states where mobile sports gambling is now possible, with Rhode Island, Tennessee, Montana, Michigan, Illinois, and Washington D.C being among the other states where residents can enjoy mobile sports betting on NFL, MLB or the NBA.

Some of the other states who may be introducing mobile sports betting include California, Florida, Maine, and Kansas.

Despite the comprehensive list of states above allowing residents to install mobile gambling apps and have a wager on sporting events, it does not mean access to mobile casinos is guaranteed. So, while Pennsylvania introduced mobile sports betting, casino games, and poker within the space of a couple of months in 2019, Indiana currently have no plans for the introduction of mobile casino and poker. That is despite the fact the state introduced mobile sports gambling in October 2019.

New Hampshire is another state where it is possible to place a wager on sports using a mobile device but not play mobile casino games or poker. Nevada was the first state in the US to allow mobile sports betting but as with New Hampshire and Indiana, it is illegal to play mobile casino games and this may be a move to protect the casino industry in the entertainment capital of the world.

However, more states are lining up to introduce both mobile sports betting and casino games to their residents in 2021 and beyond. The overall picture is clear right now in terms of where mobile gambling is possible in the US but it is an ever-changing situation. As states move to legalize the various aspects of mobile betting, the number of states offering mobile gambling is going to increase and more people in the US will have access to legal mobile gambling applications.
