There’s cross-promoting and then there’s what took place before a China Professional Baseball League game.

In an effort to promote the upcoming release of The Ring vs. The Grudge, things got downright scary for the first pitch of the Uni-President 7-Eleven Lions (yes, that’s really their name) and the Lamigo Monkeys game on Thursday.

Just how scary? Try intense-looking creatures crawling over home plate, a scary batter in the box, some crazy interaction with the scoreboard, and even a player being killed behind home plate.

Oh, and to avoid confusion, this took place between two of the four teams that make up the Taiwan-based CPBL — not to be confused with the China Baseball League, which is made up of teams in China. You know, because Taiwan is actually known as the Republic of China…not to be confused with the Peoples Republic of China (the communist country).

Got it?

While we’ve seen some crazy first pitches happen here in America, none have been as horrifying as what we just witnessed that we can remember.

Perhaps the most horrifying thing of all? The players laughing hard at what was taking place in front of them.
