Former president Donald Trump has rarely had to lead the golf course to crush any potential rival to the 2024 Republican presidential nomination.

Trump skipped the GOP’s first presidential plans and showed no intention of attending the second one.

As The Washington Post noted, rivals like Florida governor Ron DeSantis and businessman Vivkey Ramaswamy have undergone a grueling on-the-ground campaign in early primary states while Trump has largely stayed in New Jersey.

According to The Post, Trump has “discussed the [91] felony charges against him with his lawyers, posted thousands of times on Truth Social, strategized for a general election campaign against President Joe Biden, criticized challenger Ron DeSantis and DJed music on his golf club’s patio.”

Trump leads his Republican rivals by double digits in all polls despite having fewer campaign events than most of his GOP foes, according to a Post analyst of campaign stops from May to September.

Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition President Steve Scheffler told The Post that Trump “probably should have been here,” even while acknowledging that Trump doesn’t need to campaign as hard as his rivals.

“I know caucus-goers, and they want engagement one-on-one,” Scheffler told The Post, who also noted Scheffler “declined to get into his conversations with the Trump team beyond saying that his group ‘made every effort’ to encourage Trump to attend.”

The world was quick to react:
