Former PGA Tour golfer Erik Compton was arrested on felony and misdemeanor charges by Miami-Dade police officers after reportedly committing domestic violence against his wife.

The Miami-Dade Police Department said in a report that the incident occurred Saturday evening at the couple’s home. Police say they were having a verbal argument over “relationship issues” when she started recording on her phone. The 43-year-old golfer then reportedly grabbed the phone out of her hand and threw it into the pool outside before grabbing her by the shoulders and throwing her into the wall, which left her with bruises on one arm.

According to the police report, Compton’s wife then left, drove to a friend’s house, and contacted the police. When police arrived, he invoked his right to an attorney and did not speak with them.

Compton was arrested on a strong-armed robbery charge, which is a second-degree felony, as well as a misdemeanor battery charge.

The Miami native and the University of Georgia graduate currently played on the Korn Ferry Tour. He has also won on the Canadian Tour and the former NGA Hooters Tour. While he previously played on the PGA Tour, he lost his tour card in 2016. His best PGA tour finish was tied for 2nd at the 2014 U.S. Open.
