Ever since LIV Golf formed, there has been quite a rift between those defecting to the Saudi-backed league and those remaining loyal to the PGA Tour. And it appears that the rift has caused a little bit of attention between two golf legends.

This week, World Golf Hall of Famer Fred Couples was a guest speaker at a PGA Tour Champions breakfast that kicked off Hoag Classic week in Newport Beach. And when LIV Golf came up, he took the opportunity to absolutely roast legendary golfer Phil Mickelson.

“If you’re giving Phil Mickelson $200 million at age 52 to shoot 74 and 75, God bless you,” Couples said Tuesday according to the Orange County Register.

According to The Register, Couples also referred to Mickelson as a “nutbag” during his talk, but he did also admit that Mickelson is “probably one of the 10 best players that ever played” and insisted that he goes “still” like Mickelson.

Both Couples and Mickelson will undoubtedly be remembered as some of the greatest golfers of all time, but unfortunately, it appears that this new battle between the two golf leagues has caused quite a rift between them. We’ll have to see if it can ever be overcome.
