Friendships were clearly fractured when several PGA players left for LIV Golf. But Graeme McDowell claims he has managed to maintain his friendships with Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry despite his move to LIV Golf.

McDowell says he remains very close to the pair and stayed in contact with them both.

“Myself, Rory, and Shane are very close and remain very close and have done through this process,” he said.

“I haven’t seen the guys so that’s the problem because of the way the schedules are,” he added.

This year’s US Open apparently was a coming of the minds for several golfers, Mcdowell included, that’s when he met up with Mcllroy and Lowry and had a reunion of sorts.

“It was great to see them and we’re all positive about hopefully where the game of golf is going to go because I don’t think anyone wanted the last 15 months of negativity,” he added.

Sergio Garcia recently said in an interview how he and Mcllroy are trying to repair their relationship after talking briefly at the US Open also.

It appears, however, that the Mcllroy/Garcia relationship needed more work than Mcllroy and McDowell.

Mcdowell blames the divide among the golfers on how LIV Golf is being perceived by the public.

“The talk about money and terms like ‘sportswashing’ and just a lot of things that are dragging the game of golf down from a negative point of view,” he said.
