It’s not the Adam Sandler version but Landon “Happy” Gilmore has decided where he’ll play college golf.
The Bloomington, Indiana product with a very well-known name announced on social media that he will attend Ball State and play golf for the Cardinals.
“I am very excited to announce that I have committed to continue my academic and golf career at Ball State University,” said Gilmore. “I am very grateful for the opportunity Coach Fleck has given me! I would like to thank my family, my friends and coaches who push me everyday!”

Gilmore started using the “Happy” nickname when he was six years old and would compete in golf tournaments. It’s become something of a calling card for him.
“Sometimes, when I first introduce myself, they will look at me funny,” said Gilmore to the Indianapolis Star in 2022. “But if my golf bag is there and has my name on it, that will kind of help a little bit. But it never fails. At some point they will ask me, ‘Is that your real name?’ or ‘How did you get that name?’ Something along those lines.”
Gilmore rose to notoriety when he shot an 80 in a U.S. Open qualifier, prompting the “Shooter McGavin” Twitter account to call him out.
“If anyone sees this kid, tell him I’d love to meet him tonight on the 9th green at 9,” the account tweeted.
Sandler, who played the titular character in the movie Happy Gilmore even chimed in with his support.
Go get em Happy. Pulling for you. https://t.co/4o4LOoAWDN
