When it was announced that LIV Golf and the PGA Tour would be merging, the assumption was that LIV had served its purpose and would eventually go away.

However, it sounds like that might not be the case after all.

According to Sports Illustrated, Yasir Al-Rumayyan, the governor of the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF), has made it clear to players that he wants LIV to continue in the future.

“[LIV] is my ****ing baby,” Rumayyan reportedly told players.

According to a clause in the agreement between the PGA Tour and PIF, PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan has. a say in LIV’s future. However, Monahan took an extended absence after the deal over health concerns, though many have speculated that is the first step in his removal from the organization.

“Yasir Al-Rumayyan reportedly assured LIV team captains yesterday that the league is here to stay, despite a framework agreement with the PGA TOUR containing a clause that says commissioner Jay Monahan will have discretion to decide its future. (Via Sports Illustrated),” NUCLRGOLF tweeted Friday.

Meanwhile, LIV CEO Greg Norman and Al-Rumayyan were spotted together in a golf cart last week at Valderrama, so the two seem to remain close even as the golf world changes around them.

There were some strong reactions to the report that LIV might last beyond this season.
