Earlier this year, the PGA Tour and commissioner Jay Monahan made a pretty shocking move by deciding to form a sort of alliance with the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund, which financially backs the rival LIV Golf league. And it sounds like Monahan hopes that the deal between the PGA Tour and the PIF happens in the coming weeks.

During a recent speaking appearance at The New York Times’ DealBook Summit in New York City, Monahan gave an update on the negotiations with Saudi Arabia’s PIF regarding the potential alliance, revealing that he has a meeting with PIF governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan scheduled next week and that the deadline of securing a deal before the end of the year is “a firm target.”

“We’re having conversations with multiple parties,” Monahan said according to ESPN. “The deadline for our conversations with PIF, as you know, is a firm target. I’ll be with Yasir next week, and we continue to advance our conversations. And I think it’s pretty well known that there’s a large number of other interested parties that we’re also pushing to think about.”

Obviously, this is a big update on the potential alliance between LIV Golf and the PGA Tour, and it led to a lot of reactions on social media.

Monahan seems confident that they will work out a deal in the coming weeks. We’ll have to see if it happens.
