The AIG Women’s Open, a major tournament recognized by both the LPGA and Ladies European Tour, finished up on Sunday. Unfortunately, the ending did not come without controversy, as a protestor of the event caused a wild scene towards the conclusion of the tournament.

As Charley Hull walked up to the 17th green, she was unfortunately greeted with pink and green smoke, which was perpetrated by a “Just Stop Oil” protestor.

Hull was in the final pairing on Sunday alongside the eventual winner of the tournament Lilia Vu. Unfortunately, the two were not given the opportunity to bask in the great moment of finishing highly in a major tournament, as they were interrupted by this protestor.

Andy Roberts of Golf Magic posted a video of the strange moment on his Twitter account.

For those unaware of the “Just Stop Oil” campaign, it is an English environmentalist group that has increasingly made its presence known at golf tournaments. They are perhaps most famous for a protestor similarly disrupting play at The Open Championship while it was underway last month.

The social media account of Just Stop Oil made it very clear at The British Open that they are openly against golf and the effects it has on the environment. And they made that clear with a tweet last month.

“There will be no more holes in one when our society collapses. We must stop our government’s 100 new oil and gas licenses before they go on to cause more harm.”

It will certainly be interesting to see how golf officials adjust in terms of security at golf events moving forward to help prevent situations like this from happening in the future.
