Ryder Cup captain Zach Johnson made a surprising announcement Tuesday. He named Brooks Koepka has been named to the US Ryder Cup team. Whether or not Johnson would put Koepka on the team became a huge discussion between LIV and PGA golfers. Rory McIlroy even came out recently and said that the European team didn’t need players from LIV Golf to win.

But apparently, the US Ryder  Cup team wouldn’t go that far by adding Koepka. According to The Mirror, McIlroy even said in May that Koepka was more than deserving.

“I mean, I certainly think Brooks deserves to be on the United States team,” he said back at the Memorial Tournament.

“I think with how he’s played, I mean, he’s second in the U.S. standings, only played two counting events. I don’t know if there’s anyone else on the, you know, on the LIV roster that would make the team on merit and how they’re playing. But Brooks is definitely a guy that I think deserves to be on the U.S. team.”

McIlroy may look like a hypocrite by supporting Koepka for the US team but not helping his own Ryder Cup team by adding European players from LIV Golf to his team.

The US dominated the Europeans the last time the Ryder Cup was played.
