Over the past couple of days, rumors and reports began to circulate suggesting that PGA Tour superstar Rory McIlroy had been offered a massive contract by LIV Golf and he was considering leaving the Tour and joining the Saudi-backed league. But as it does not sound like that’s going to happen after all.
During an interview on Tuesday, Rory McIlroy declared that the reports were false as he announced that he will not be joining LIV Golf and has not received a contract offer from the Saudi-backed league.
“I honestly don’t know why these things get started,” McIlroy said. “I’ve never been offered a number from LIV and I’ve never contemplated going to LIV.
“I think I’ve made it clear over the past two years that I don’t think it’s something for me. Doesn’t mean that I judge people that have gone and played over there. I think one of the things that I have realized over the past two years is people can make their own decisions for whatever they think is best for themselves and who are we to judge them for that.”

McIlroy then announced that he plans to play his entire career with the PGA Tour.
“It’s never even been a conversation for us,” McIlroy continued. “I’m obviously here today, I’m playing this PGA Tour event next week, and I will play the PGA Tour for the rest of my career.”
It was certainly a pretty bold denial from McIlroy, and the golf world had a lot to say about it on social media.
That was a fun 12 hours…Good job by Rory to be direct and not diving into any rhetoric. https://t.co/aaPV3YFbRG

Off camera @McIlroyRory told me he has had conversations with Yasir Al-Rumayyan, Governor of the PIF but only about the betterment of the game. Mcilroy said Al-Rumayyan knows his position on LIV and that’s why out of respect there has never been an offer. https://t.co/oHMdV5ZTf7

So you're sayin' that City AM, a London-based financial newspaper with no history of reporting on golf, got it wrong? 😂🤣 https://t.co/QogN8DTIHE

Needless to say, it doesn’t sound like McIlroy will be going anywhere.
