PGA Tour star Rory McIlroy has always been known to voice his opinions very clearly. And he did exactly that while speaking about fellow PGA Tour star Patrick Cantlay and his caddie Joe LaCava on Sunday.

There is history between these three that stems from the 2023 Ryder Cup. McIlroy was famously upset with LaCava after he claimed that LaCava was standing directly in his putting line while celebrating a putt of Cantlay’s. This led to a heated confrontation in the parking lot shortly after.

This created bad blood between the two that has seemingly not gone away. McIlroy spoke about the incident and didn’t mince words on his feelings on both LaCava and Cantlay in an interview with Paul Kimmage of the Irish Independent.

“Here’s what angered me,” McIlroy said in the Irish Independent interview. “My relationship with Cantlay is average at best. We don’t have a ton in common and see the world quite differently.”

This is pretty telling of how McIlroy feels about Cantlay in particular. And he proceeded to say that he believes Cantlay has rubbed off on LaCava, who famously used to be the caddie of Tiger Woods.

“Joe LaCava used to be a nice guy when he was caddying for Tiger,” McIlroy added. “And now he’s caddying for that **** he’s turned into a… I still wasn’t in a great headspace.”

Luckily for McIlroy, Team Europe was able to come away with the victory over the U.S. team, so you can say that he got the last laugh over LaCava and Cantlay. That being said, it’s safe to say that McIlroy won’t willingly be hanging around Cantlay anytime soon.
