Rory McIlroy made headlines on Wednesday with stunning news. The accomplished golfer made waves after he resigned from the PGA Tour’s Policy Board. He had previously served as a player director for the board.
McIlroy has had a topsy-turvy year dealing with issues between the PGA Tour and the emerging LIV Golf Tour. It appears that Rory just wants to focus on his golf game.
“Rory McIlroy washes hands of mess, resigns from PGA Tour Policy Board,” the Toronto Sun published on Wednesday.
The Sun posted the article on their official X account.

The publication, citing a PGA Tour statement, wrote of his exit, “Citing personal and professional commitments, Rory McIlroy has notified the PGA Tour policy board that he is resigning his position as a player director.”
They also added that it’s unclear as of now what led to McIlroy’s departure from the board, at least specifically. The PGA Tour’s statement on it is a bit of a blanket statement that hides the true reasoning.
McIlroy had been so staunchly against the LIV Golf Tour that the merger announcement definitely seemed to take its toll on him. He was a public face in the heated battle between the two golf tours this past spring and summer before news of the merger emerged.
Nevertheless, we may never know the true reasoning.
