This week, golf superstar Rory McIlroy is competing at the World Tour Championship in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and it’s safe to say that one of his shots did not exactly go according to plan.
Rory McIlroy had a little bit of a mishap with his tee shot on the par-3 13th hole during the first round at the World Tour Championship on Thursday as the ball didn’t exactly make it to the fairway or the green – or even on any grass at all, for that matter. Instead, it landed right in the lap of a spectator who was sitting off to the right of the green.
When McIlroy approached the shot, he found his ball nestled right between the crossed legs of a woman sitting on the grass.

McIlroy joked with the woman, pretending that he intended to simply play the ball right off of her lap.
Eventually, a tournament official came over and sorted out the whole situation, but it was still a humorous interaction between the four-time major winner and the spectator, and it led to a lot of reactions on social media as a result.

It’s safe to say that the woman is glad McIlroy didn’t play the ball as it lies.
