Scottie Scheffler

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler had a decent Friday on the course at TPC River Highlands, shooting even par.

It’s not the kind of round that will win you the tournament, but he remains in the hunt heading into the weekend at seven under.

That’s nothing to be embarrassed about. However, he might want to be embarrassed about a moment that ended with him taking a golf club to the face after a shot.

Scheffler looked pretty stunned after the club whacked him in the face and understandably so. The “oh no” right before the clip cuts out makes it all the more perfect. There’s certainly more context available but, honestly, do you really want it? The clip is a perfect meme in the making.

Naturally, the golf world had a lot of fun with the embarrassing gaffe.https://twitter.com/JeffEisenband/status/1672339204121165826https://twitter.com/SchefflerLegion/status/1672307633737310220https://twitter.com/jamiecweir/status/1672329533876322306

As Golf Digest notes, this might have been some karmic payback from when Scheffler tossed a driver last week when he was trying to figure out which club he wanted for the 2023 U.S. Open.

As far as we’re aware, the club he threw last week was still spinning in the air until it hit Scheffler in the face on Friday.
