The controversial Tiger Woods tampon prank drew heavy scrutiny from many in and around the golf world. But one former LGPA-champion golfer decided to offer a defense of Woods.

15-time champion Suzann Pettersen decided to take up for the iconic golfer. Pettersen, a celebrated golfer from Norway, labeled the prank a “boyish joke” according to the New York Post.

Pettersen said:

“I don’t know Justin Thomas as well, but I know kind of Tiger’s humor and that’s a very probably boyish joke between the two of them and I don’t really take it too personal.”

Woods and golfer Justin Thomas were skewered for passing a tampon between each other on the golf course at the Genesis Invitational this past weekend. Woods handed the tampon to Thomas as they walked along the links at the ninth hole.

Pettersen is not the only woman in the golf world to defend the legendary golfer. Paige Spiranac offered an impassioned defense and suggested that “You can’t pick and choose when to be a feminist” in discussing how she faces criticism for what she opts to wear.

But Woods drew significant criticism from The Golf Channel host Cara Banks, who sounded off on the controversy on Saturday. She claimed she was offended by the joke, as did former U.S. Olympian Michael Johnson, who blasted Tiger Woods and claimed he was “never a leader.”
