Who will captain the United States team when the Ryder Cup returns to American soil at Bethpage Black in 2025? Two-time Ryder Cup captain Davis Love III knows who the search should start with, Tiger Woods.

Love captained the United States Ryder Cup team in 2012’s gut-wrenching loss in 2012 and the redemptive victory four years later. Coming off of 2023’s Ryder Cup, a 16.5-11.5 European victory that was for all intents and purposes over after the first question, Love was asked who he thinks should lead the American team in 2025.

“We’ve got to call Tiger Woods and ask him,” Love said, per Sean Zak, Golf.com. “I think if he wants — obviously Tiger’s into a lot of stuff right now, but it’s kind of his call, I would say. I hate to put pressure on him, but it’s kind of his call. Obviously with some guys out, he’s the next logical choice.”

Tiger has a history at the venue. Bethpage Black has hosted three majors. Woods won the first, the 2002 U.S. Open, finishing at three-under defeating Phil Mickelson by three shots in what was a wire-to-wire victory.

Woods has been part of eight Ryder Cup teams, with 1999’s victory being the only time he won the event. He’s had a much better history at the Presidents Cup, being on nine American teams, which posted a 7-1-1 record in those events. That included the 2019 Presidents Cup, where Woods was a playing captain.
