The U.S. Women’s Open teed off its qualifying round on Tuesday, but a nine-year-old golfer stole the show.

Bella Simoes, a U.S. Kids Golf tour sensation, is vying to qualify for the 2023 U.S. Women’s Open in Naples, Florida. Simoes, from Brazil, opened up qualifying with the first shot of the day at The Club at Mediterra golf course. And it was a beautiful, epic shot.

The U.S. Women’s Open USGA account posted a video of the epic tee shot. Then the tweet and the video went viral on Tuesday.

As of writing, the tweet garnered 858,000+ viewers on Twitter, with over 80 quotes and nearly 700 likes.

Plenty around the sports world had something to say about the shot. Many were left in amazement.

New York Mets radio announcer Howie Rose praised the young golfer. “I need to take lessons from her,” Rose tweeted.

Jason Sobel of The Action Network considered it “amazing” and noted a neat fact. “Youngest to ever qualify for the U.S. Women’s Open was Lucy Li at age 10 — 10 years ago.”

Beth Ann Nichols of Golfweek had her eyes on the swing.

Flushing It said it was “incredible to see” how golfers are as great as they are now, even at a young age.

Bella Simoes is a name you’ll hear a lot today and this week, perhaps, if she manages to defy the odds and qualify.
