A high school football game in Florida turned ugly after an altercation led to a player being hospitalized.
WMBB in Panama City, FL, reported that a local football game got out of hand after an incident took place on the field.
The network wrote, “In the third quarter, Blountstown’s Gavin Lambeth tackled Marianna’s Ethan Lipford. After the play, Lambeth grabbed Lipford by the helmet, pushed his head into the ground twice, then pulled off Lipford’s helmet and hit him with it.”
Lipford suffered a severe concussion and could not talk or walk after the incident, according to WMBB. He was airlifted to Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare in Florida’s state capital. He is now recovering back at home but faces a hard road back.
Referees ejected Lambeth of Blountstown after the incident occurred.
The Florida High School Athletic Association said they are reviewing the incident. The FHSAA plans to watch a video of the encounter and speak to multiple witnesses, according to WJHG-TV in Panama City. The coaches were reportedly remorseful towards Lambeth, as WJHG said that the two coaches “understood” that he made a “mistake” at the moment.
No additional details have yet to be provided. This is obviously a terrible situation, and hopefully, Lipford can make a full recovery after this incident. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
