The Atlanta Braves evened the National League Division Series with a 5-4 win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday.

While many were ready to cry foul about the new MLB Postseason format, the Braves went out and did the work. After Austin Riley hit a dramatic home run in the eighth inning, the Braves defense had to shut the door down.

Atlanta shut it down with an incredible double play! The Braves turned an 8-5-3 double play en route to their victory against the division rival Phillies.

It turns out that the Braves made history after they turned this double play. Atlanta’s 8-5-3 double play was the first of its kind in any inning or situation in MLB Postseason history, according to ESPN Stats & Info. Additionally, ESPN said that “it also marked the first double play ever involving an outfielder to and a postseason game.”

You just never know what you’re going to see at a Major League ballpark. There have been many cases over the years where you see something historic that you truly never thought you’d see. It turns out this double play was one of those moments.

The Braves have an off day on Tuesday but resume play against the Phillies in Philadelphia on Wednesday for Game 3. The exciting series is tied up at 1 game apiece, so this next contest will be pivotal.

The MLB world reacted to the historic double play.
