While injuries have limited him to being a designated hitter, Byron Buxton is one of the best defensive centerfielders in recent memory. He won a Gold Glove and Platinum Glove in 2017 and when he’s in the field, has a knack for making tough plays look either easy or spectacular. On Friday, he got a taste of his own medicine, courtesy of Baltimore Orioles centerfielder Cedric Mullins.

Buxton came to the plate with two runners on and nobody out in the fourth inning of Friday’s game between the Orioles and his Minnesota Twins. It looked as though Buxton would break the 0-0 tie, as he hit a ball to deep center field with home run distance.

Mullins, though, had other ideas. He leaped at the wall to bring the would-be three-run home run back. Buxton, meanwhile, stood at first base and stared at Mullins in disbelief, eventually tipping his hat before heading back to the dugout.

Baseball fans took notice of Mullins’ catch, as well as Buxton’s reaction to it.

This play came less than a week after Mullins robbed Buxton of extra bases and a likely RBI in a game between the two teams in Baltimore.

So, if Buxton is feeling like Mullins is picking on him, we can’t exactly blame him.
