Chris Christie made an appearance at the New York Mets training camp Saturday. And it didn’t take long before fans everywhere drew the same connection between the hefty politician and MLB’s much-maligned new uniform.

The new Nike/Fanatics uniforms have been criticized for many issues, including a poor fit. So fans did not want to see the pudgy former New Jersey governor trying on a uniform.

Christie opted to remain in street clothes as he made his rounds at the Mets’ Clover Park in St. Lucie County, Florida, for a game against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Christie, who made his second run for the GOP presidential nomination before dropping out last year, has been on the Mets board of directors since 2021. He is a close friend of team owner Steve Cohen and a regular for games at Citi Field.

Fans turned to X/Twitter to make variations on the same joke about Christie and the new uniform.
